Training is the hardest and most rewarding part
I think back to my marathon training days. The real race wasn’t the hardest part. It was actually when I started training with my husband. We had to get back into shape. It wasn’t always very fun or even motivating in the beginning. We weren’t as fast as we wanted to be running. Well, you don’t wake up one day and run a marathon without doing the training first. (well, you definitely shouldn’t do a marathon without training)
Anyway, I just starting the Positive Parenting Solutions Training today. It’s all great information, but I can definitely relate it to training for a marathon. This dedication I have decided to make to become a better parent will not happen over night. It takes hard work and practice. I know I am not an awful parent (although I definitely beat myself up when I think I could have done something better or maybe a different way).
I guess I could relate marathon training to parenting in many ways. Some people might think I am crazy for training and running a marathon. They might also think I am crazy for doing Parenting training. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. I know how rewarding it was to train for a marathon and complete one. It was even more rewarding for me to see my husband train and run it along side of me. Even more rewarding was the fact that my husband finished before me. Somehow I inspired him to become a runner. (Well, we both need to get back into shape so maybe we’ll look at some pictures from some old races we ran.)
I know that just like running, parenting isn’t always fun and it’s definitely not always easy. I have one simple goal, though. I want to have a great parenting tool box. Some parents might think they don’t need more tools and that’s great for them. I am not afraid to admit that I might not have all the answers. Also, I want to feel comfortable with the tools I do have available.
I’ll be sure to keep you posted on my parenting journey. I hope to share some valuable resources in the process.
Don’t worry, we all make a lot of mistakes. We will never be perfect but our kids are counting on us so why not invest in the most important job we will ever have in our life time?

Great comparison of parenting and marathoning. Especially since the course of both can be unfamiliar, you never what will be around the bend. Kudos to you on strengthening your parenting tool box.
